Gastric Bypass and Pregnancy

After undergoing gastric bypass surgery pregnancy must be avoided for 12 to 18 months. The change in nutrition during the weight loss period is dangerous for a healthy baby. Precautions should be taken to ensure that pregnancy does not occur until it is safe for both the mother and the baby.

For female patients pregnancy following gastric bypass surgery is an important issue. Morbidly obese women are at a higher risk for pregnancy complications. Having children is just one of the motivating factors in choosing gastric bypass.

Contact your surgeon or doctor for further information about gastric bypass and pregnancy.
