Two years following gastric bypass surgery the Rev.
John Hooks has lost 335 pounds. Once weighing in at 570 pounds he is now down to 235 pounds. He says the changes the surgery brought were like "night and day." He feels he is more healthy spiritually as well as physically. Hooks is one of the many people who have successfully had gastric bypass surgery from opera singers to comedians.
" 'You hurt ...your back, your knees, your arms are sore from pushing yourself up out of chairs,' Hooks said, recounting that he needed 12 hours of sleep a night just to function and still found himself fatigued. Hooks said he tried traditional approaches and finally realized that the answer lay in gastric bypass surgery. He had the surgery on March 31, 2003, at the Anderson Medical Center. At the two-year anniversary of the surgery, Hooks finds himself half the man he used to be at 235 pounds."
