Overweight not so bad after all says CDC, obese still bad 4.19.05

McDonalds may not be nearly as bad as cigarettes after all. A new study from the Center of Disease Control says that being modestly overweight is not as bad as was previously believed. An estimate from January 2005 predicted 365,000 deaths a year from being overweight -- today that number was dropped to 25,814.

To put this in perspective, being overweight was previously #2 on the list of preventable death. This now bumps it down to #7.

"The new analysis found that obesity - being extremely overweight - is indisputably lethal. But like several recent smaller studies, it found that people who are modestly overweight actually have a lower risk of death than those of normal weight. "
